11-Year-Old Arrested In Holiday Shootings

MISSISSIPPI (Ben Caxton) — The long weekend holiday hasn’t stopped the shooting violence across the state. In Tupelo, an 11-year-old was arrested Friday by police and charged with aggravated assault after shooting a 12-year-old. The victim is in critical condition in a Memphis hospital. In Jackson, a 19-year-old man was shot in the neck near the intersection of Cooper Road and Rainey Road. The man drove himself home to Westway Street, where police were called around 1:30 PM Saturday. And in Kosciusko, a double shooting Friday night just before 11:00 PM has claimed the life on one victim. Police arrived on the scene to find a 47-year-old woman and a 61-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds to the face, arms, and abdomen. The man, identified by officials as Billy Ray Johnson, was pronounced dead at the hospital by County Coroner Sam Bell. The woman was airlifted to UMMC in Jackson for treatment.
